Project: Basic paint application
Exercise: Getting to know your brushes
First task: Exploring marks and shapes made by brushes, from memory paint a simple A4 landscape:
Second task: Piece of Fruit (using a simple technique)
I prepared the canvas in azure blue, sketched the best composition in chalk and using a wide brush and fairly muted colours as I painted the pear on the coffee table in my lounge; the light is very soft and delicate in the early afternoon. Again, found it hard not to add more detail, but the pear actually didn’t any detail to describe the form, and the knots and markings in the wood of the coffee only needed a few simple swirls. I am much happier with this work then the previous landscape.
