I found this exercise particularly difficult as I have never painted a self portrait before. I took a photograph for the purposes of my blog, and set up a mirror next to a window to capture the light.
I prepared a canvas board with a green and used burnt umber to trace an outline (the painting is a mirror image as I was painting from life).
