Drawing the human figure

I felt at a slight disadvantage during this section of the course as I live on my own and do not have an available model to sit for me when I am able to paint. Asking friends and family can be difficult because there is an immediate judgement of the work as to whether it is life like or carries a good enough resemblance. I found the best way to get round this was to a local life drawing class so at least could experiment without having to have my work/mistakes critiqued, the disadvantage was that I was only able to draw and paint for fairly short sessions. However I am reasonably pleased with this full length portrait in pastels.

I didn’t have large enough paper so I ended up taping two pieces of A3 together.

This was a slightly shorter session so there was no real time to put in facial features – which makes the drawing a little odd.
