Project Working from a photograph

For this exercise I wanted to show certain elements from the previous exercises – linear and atmospheric perspective. I tool a very old photograph from travels in in Colorado. The original photograph was a panoramic, so converting that to a different shape canvas changed the viewpoint a little. I moved the horizon line of the photograph to the painting to observe the rule of thirds so that there is more ground in the painting and therefore I had to elongate the road to fit the canvas.

On reflection, due to the nature of the photograph I  found this a bit chocolate boxy to paint – I glazed the hill areas with lemon yellow to bring out the yellow of the trees. Overall, I let the photograph over influence me, and I wish I had departed from such as tight rendition and I should have departed from the photo as soon as I had blocked in some early shapes.
